What up?? I'm startin a new workout and part of it is that P90X. Anyone else have any experience in this and first hand accounts of how P90X kicked your ass?

My buddy did it for awhile, didn't get too much out of it but you have to really maintain a good diet.
I work out at least 4 times a week and do slight kickboxing, and CRDT each of those days. My main problem is I deal with fallen arches from all the marching and running in the Army. I don't get to pound a treadmill or parkway like I should.
P90x is cool thou I have youtubed a few diff exercises from it and added them into my gym routine! that rolling pushup it awesome!

Ya I have done it before and it is brutal until you get used to it. Just don't make the mistake of using large weights the first couple times around.
I still prefer to do MMA around 4 times a week and I try to bike at least 40 + miles on sat and sundays.
Other then that I wakeboard a lot which helps burn even more calories.

I'm actually gonna do the ab ripper x one to start. I'm not following any type of order from their different programs.

My buddy did the whole p90x thing and he is in the navy. He started out weighing around 150-160ish and already real lean. He didnt really get bigger or anything just ripped a little more. It is totally made to get you ripped up and such, so if thats what you want then its great for you. If you are trying to get bigger then get to free weights (my favorite)

i remember i used to do nothin but workout....tried dieting right and lifting right....but it sucks to do when you're the only one doing it, i gained about 8lbs in 2-3 months and that just wasnt enough for me, i said screw it and i just sat around as much as possible and just ate and ate. i weighed about 165-168 when i was working out a lot and got up to 175 and that just didnt cut it. now im at 180-185 and i just workout every now and then, i still look the same and all, just idk where all that weight went to. now being a hot shot driver my diet consists of fast food and snacks.....i do be careful about what i eat when i do eat fast food, and i try to make the best of it, but its not easy. idk what im trying to get to, but good luck jb!

I've never been one that cared for the gym in any way/shape/form. Hated going in and feeling like an idiot, hated going in and feeling like everyone else was a meat head, pretty much just hated going in. I grew up staying fit by working and being active, but as I got older (hit me around 24, I'm 32 now) my active lifestyle just wasn't there (life gets in the way) and the pounds came on fast.
I did Krav Maga for a while, which helped me lose some of the fat and feel better, but didn't gain me any strength really. It was a good release of aggression after a crappy day at work tho. But when you have to deal with some idiots that don't know how to control themselves and start getting injuries because of it (several rib injuries one after the other), it lost it's luster.
My wife discovered CrossFit (she has always been fit, gone the gym, etc) and I started doing it at the beginning of May (she's been doing it off-and-on for a year, and regularly for about 4 months). It has been, by far, the best fit for me as far as working out, getting fit, getting strong, and being an environment that I actually enjoy. Every workout is fast, intense, varied in movements, and leaves you hating and craving every minute of it at the same time. Part of CrossFit is some general lifestyle and diet changes too, but they are not hard to get used to, and most of it is just the combination of working out with a group without actually competing, and building a comraderie and bond with everyone else that is there. No machines, no "curls" - it's all about basic functional movements that you use (to a lesser level of intensity) in every day life.
This is a quote from the owner of the CrossFit gym I go to (CrossFit Fort Vancouver), posted on his daily blog:
CrossFit works. Constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensities produce results, no doubt about it. Results are quick, measurable and visible. One aspect of CrossFit that is easy to overlook however is the enjoyment that working out this way brings to exercise.
Physical fitness is a personal journey that we’ve all been on since elementary school P.E. class. Sometime during the growing up process, exercise often shifts from a favorite all-day pastime to a necessary chore, like mowing the lawn or doing the dishes. It can easily become boring or turn into a hassle in a busy schedule. That’s where CrossFit excels. The workouts bring a challenging element of enjoyment back into exercise. Just as important, we do CrossFit workouts in good company. We push each other, help each other, compete with each other, challenge each other, inspire each other, and support each other. We don’t get bored when we workout. I think it’s cool that I’ve never seen anyone work out here with headphones on. I’ve got nothing against headphones, but the camaraderie of real people beats even the best workout mix. Yesterday’s team WOD really fired up my appreciation for working out with a group of grounded, down-to-earth individuals who are serious about their fitness. That was a lot of fun.
I would encourage ANYONE who has ever considered getting in shape to find a local CrossFit and drop in for one of their workouts. I'm not dropping :spam: here - I don't get a kickback from these guys or anything like that. It's just something that, for me, was like finally finding the Holy Grail of getting back in shape after so many failed attempts over the past 8 years. You can check out the main CrossFit site at CrossFit (http://www.crossfit.com), where you can read about the whole concept, see videos on specific workouts or excercises, and find an "affiliate" in your area if you are interested. And to see that I'm not just blowing smoke, here's the affiliate I go to CrossFit Fort Vancouver (http://crossfitfortvancouver.com/) and me doing my very first workout on April 24th, in my work clothes just before spending 4 hours erecting the pull-up frame I designed for the place.
After "warming up" with jump ropes and squats, trying out deadlifts...

Thanks for the info LC. That workout looks nuts. Would probably destroy me in minutes . I need to get back into shape, so I'm not going insane trying to do every workout in the world immediately. I am starting slow, and figured the abripperx workout would be cool to try once a week to start out.

That's what's actually cool about CrossFit - you go at your own pace/intensity...but you find that in the group environment you push yourself harder than you would solo. On that sandbag workout, I've got a 60lb bag. Two other guys have 40lb bags, and the guy that leaves off on the run last (Ryan) has a 100lb bag!
This is actually a better "summary" of what CrossFit is about:
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/what-crossfit.html
I've been in workouts where someone like me (I'd consider "average" at best) can finish in the same time or faster as someone who has been doing CF for years - but he/she may be doing more weight because they have built up to it. We have people in their 60's working out next to 18-yr-olds. And some pretty over-weight people that are trying to get themselves back into "average" range next to guys that are firefighters and have been doing CF for years.
We've got one guy that comes often who has always been a weight lifter - he's got some impressive bulk - but there are many days he'll only get 3/4 through a WOD and have to stop, or will finish slow because he doesn't have the flexibility and endurance to get through the intensity of it. He'll comment that I kicked his ass because I made it all five rounds of 500m rows, but I'll be thinking he kicked my ass because his time is 20s faster than mine!
You'll also find muscles you never knew existed...I can hardly stand up today because the adductor muscles in my legs are so sore from doing cleans on Wednesday. But I still went in this morning and did some different excercises, and wish I could go back in tonight!
